ICC Women's World Cup 2009 - Social Responsibility
During the ICC Women's World Cup 2009, the tournament will be showing its support for two very important social causes.
HIV and AIDS Awareness
Players during six broadcast matches at North Sydney Oval will wear red ribbons as a show of support for people living with HIV. This initiative is part of the ICC's partnership with UNAIDS, UNICEF and the Global Media Aids Initiative on raising awareness and reducing stigma around HIV and AIDS. Members of the England and South Africa women's teams visited HIV projects as part of the World Aids Day activities in 2008. A gallery from these visits can be found here.McGrath Foundation
The ICC will be showing its support for the McGrath Foundation with a series of activities to coincide with the potential Super Six clash between Australia and England on 19 March. As well as a donation to the Foundation, that will help contribute to the provision of nurse care for women effected by breast cancer, the ICC's sponsors will be helping turn the North Sydney Oval pink for the day, with a series of exciting activations, while the area around the boundary edge will also be sprayed pink. Watch out for the pink shirts of the television commentary team if you can't be at the match or follow the game online at iccevents.yahoo.com and make an online donation to the McGrath Foundation. Earlier this year, over AUS $500,000 was raised for the McGrath Foundation from online donations, sales of pink wrist bands and bandanas, and commercial support at the Sydney Test Match.
